HomeCrowd is an impact-driven fintech company that helps underserved millennials to access peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms for online mortgage or consumer loans by using a holistic data-driven credit scoring. 

  • The company is founded in 2017 with a long journey towards regulation clearance with various agencies namely the Securities Commission of Malaysia, Bank Negara Malaysia, and Housing Ministry of Malaysia (also known as Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan (KPKT)) respectively.
  • HomeCrowd is Malaysia's 1st company to be licensed and regulated for online lending for mortgage/ consumer lending by KPKT

  • According to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) data, 60% of Malaysian homebuyers were declined access to mortgage financing from traditional banks since 2017
  • Based on a HSBC bank survey, about 2 out of 3 Malaysian millennials are yet to own their 1st home and 94% of them intend to buy one in the next five years
  • We support Malaysia's government initiative on Home Ownership Campaign re-introduced by Prime Minister recently
  • Facilitating the access to housing finance is another crucial step for policymakers since the mortgage debt-to-GDP ratio is often below 15% in Asia, compared to more than 50% in many developed countries (Source: Cagamas)


  • Our platform streamlines the mortgage application processes online, using data-driven decision-making and recent advancements in tech to create a frictionless customer experience. 
  • The credit qualified loans are then listed in our crowdfunding campaign where individuals or institutional investors invest for fixed, safe returns while benefitting socially. 



HomeCrowd offers three main products as follows:

  • Digital mortgage loan
  • Debt consolidation loans offering to our mortgage applicant who are not qualified for a home loan yet
  • An alternative investment in a collateralized mortgage or consumer loan


  • Received in-principal approval for licensing from KPKT
  • Secured a partnership with UEM Sunrise (the property unit of UEM group)
  • Partnered with Experian to support our e-KYC and credit score infrastructure



HomeCrowd has approximately 400+ early users, borrowers and investors who have signed up for the service.



HomeCrowd's business model are as follows:

i) Revenue through interest margin: an average of 0.5% p.a of the loan amount

ii) Referral fees for home insurance or MRTA



HomeCrowd have two main target markets as follows:

i) Middle class (M40) income millennial homebuyer looking for a housing loan up to RM500k

ii) Individual and institutional investors looking for a safe and steady return



EdgeProp (a subsidiary of The Edge Group) launched FundMyHome in Nov 2018. Whilst they are a competition, their product is slightly different with a 5 years rent-to-own scheme



The main objective of this fundraising round is to increase our paid-up capital requirement to RM1mil as required by KPKT for our licensing. The funds would be utilized as below: 

  • Debt funds - 40%
  • Hiring - 20%
  • Working capital - 20%
  • Marketing - 20%

The founder, Dave Chew invested in the company before raised our pre-seed round of USD150k from the investors below:

i) SOSV is a global multi-stage VC based in the US with a fund size of $700mil

ii) Artesian is an APAC focused VC based in Australia with a fund size of $800mil

Robinhood is a commission-free stock trading app. Vlad Tenev, co-founder and co-CEO of Robinhood, said his app could not get regulatory approval without having a sizeable amount of funding from venture capitalists. But most venture capitalists didn’t want to give him money, because he had no product.

“So there are capital requirements, which also make it more difficult than launching a typical startup, because there’s a little bit of a catch-22 situation. Investors want to be sure that you’re going to get that regulatory approval before entrusting you with the capital, but you need that capital to get the regulatory approval.”

To close Tenev and his cofounder did a lot pitching, estimating nos from 75 VCs turned them down before they were able to raise their first $3 million.
